Nouns and Adjectives
Recommended age: 7-9 years old
A noun is a word that names things: people, animals, objects and places. Examples: dog, school, Maria, ball.
An adjective is a word that describes a noun — what it’s like. Examples: big, blue, happy, fast.
Example
In the sentence “The big dog ran fast”:
- dog → noun (the thing that runs)
- big → adjective (describes the dog)
- fast → adjective (describes how it ran)

In the sentence “The red ball rolled down the narrow street”, find:
- The two nouns.
- The two adjectives.
Answer: Nouns: ball and street. Adjectives: red (describes the ball) and narrow (describes the street).
